Surah Al-'Alaq

اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِى خَلَقَ۝١

Recite in the name of your Lord who created -

خَلَقَ الْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ۝٢

Created man from a clinging substance.

اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ۝٣

Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -

الَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ۝٤

Who taught by the pen -

عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ۝٥

Taught man that which he knew not.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ الْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ۝٦

No! [But] indeed, man transgresses

أَن رَّءَاهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰٓ۝٧

Because he sees himself self-sufficient.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰٓ۝٨

Indeed, to your Lord is the return.

أَرَءَيْتَ الَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ۝٩

Have you seen the one who forbids

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ۝١٠

A servant when he prays?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰٓ۝١١

Have you seen if he is upon guidance

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰٓ۝١٢

Or enjoins righteousness?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ۝١٣

Have you seen if he denies and turns away -

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ۝١٤

Does he not know that Allah sees?

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ۝١٥

No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock -

نَاصِيَةٍۢ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۢ۝١٦

A lying, sinning forelock.

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ۝١٧

Then let him call his associates;

سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ۝١٨

We will call the angels of Hell.

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِب ۩۝١٩

No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah].
